Aquatic therapy, also known as hydrotherapy and aquatic rehabilitation, is a popular complement to traditional land-based physical therapy. Its soothing properties appeal to many who are seeking to heal their bodies, move easier or to help relax from everyday stress.
We often recommend Aqua Therapy as a part of a total treatment program when our patients need help improving flexibility and the ability to move, building muscle strength and endurance, improving coordination and balance, assisting with locomotion and gait, increasing aerobic capacity for better health, and to enhance the healing process to reduce recovery time.
VCM Pool Therapy Exercise Program
Typically, the aquatic therapy session starts out with a warm-up of low-resistance exercises to target the lower and upper extremities. After the warm-up, you will perform cardiovascular activities along with strengthening activities. For core training, there is a session of deep-water exercises of squats, arm and leg swings. Our sessions are held at The Mansion House pool on Wednesday mornings, or we can come to your pool for individual training and therapy sessions as well.
